Graaskamp Center Welcomes Tim Carew, Laurence Geller and Michael Robb to Board of Advisors
Tim Carew has a breadth of commercial banking and real estate experience gained during an extensive career at JPMorgan and its predecessor companies. He currently leads Carewco, a wealth management and real estate advisory firm based in Chicago.
Mr. Carew was most recently a business development executive in the JPMorgan Private Bank covering the Midwest and South. Prior to assuming that role, he was a Vice President in the JPMorgan Investment Bank and a Director at Banc One Capital Markets. Tim had client account responsibility for a portfolio of REITs in the industrial, office, retail, multi-family, and self-storage sectors. He led growth with expertise in credit structuring and relationship management and covered the Midwest and West.
Tim’s banking experience includes entrepreneurial small business and privately-held middle market lending. He also served in the real estate asset management workout area. Tim began his career in hotel lending after corporate credit training.
Tim graduated from the Wisconsin School of Business with a Masters Degree in Real Estate under the Graaskamp program in 1980 and earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Wisconsin.
Tim has been a guest lecturer at his alma mater and a speaker at hotel industry conferences. He is focused on real estate advisory and portfolio management.
Laurence S. Geller
Laurence Geller is President, Chief Executive Officer and Director and founder of Strategic Hotel Capital, L.L.C., or SHC LLC (NYSE: BEE).
Prior to founding Strategic Hotels & Resorts, Inc. in 1997, Laurence was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Geller & Co., a gaming, tourism and lodging advisory company he founded in 1989. Geller & Co. specialized in major hotel, corporate and real estate development, financing and structuring on an international scope. Previously, Laurence held positions as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hyatt Development Corporation, Senior Vice President of Holiday Inns, Inc. and Director of Grand Metropolitan Hotels in London.
He has over 40 years of experience in the lodging industry and has received numerous awards for his service to the lodging industry. He is a former Vice Chairman of the Commercial and Retail Council of the Urban Land Institute and the immediate past Chairman of the Industry Real Estate Financing Advisory Council of the American Hotel and Motel Association. Laurence also sits on the board of Children’s Memorial Hospital and serves as a member of its finance committee and facilities sub-committee. Laurence is Co-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Churchill Centre and Ambassador for North America for the Hotel and Catering Institutional Management Association of the U.K.
Laurence is a graduate of Ealing Technical College's school of hotel management and catering.
Michael S. Robb
Michael Robb joined Pacific Life in 1976 spending his first five years with the company working in field offices. He joined the Home Office in 1982 and has been the head of the Real Estate Division since 1985. His is currently Executive Vice President and sits on Pacific Life’s Management Investment Committee and Corporate Management Committee.
Prior to joining Pacific Life, Michael worked for a real estate subsidiary of Lincoln National Life Insurance responsible for real estate acquisitions, joint ventures, and mortgage loan originations on all types of commercial real estate properties nationwide. Michael has over thirty years experience in the real estate industry and received his BS in Business Administration from Ohio State University. After OSU graduation, Michael spent two years in the U.S. Army, including one year in Vietnam as a 1st Lieutenant, where he was an infantry platoon leader and was awarded a Bronze Star with V for Valor.
Michael holds the professional designations of Certified Real Estate Financier (CRF) and Certified Review Appraiser (CRA). Michael is a Director on the Life Mortgage & Real Estate Officers Council, a Senior Member of the National Association of Review Appraisers & Mortgage Underwriters, and a long-time member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, International Council of Shopping Centers, Commercial Mortgage Securities Association, and the Urban Land Institute. He is also a member of the Policy Advisory Board for the University of California, Berkeley, Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. Michael actively participates as a guest speaker and/or panelist in many industry seminars. He has also published an article in the nationally known “Pensions and Investment Age.”
Michael is a founding member of the CMSA (Commercial Mortgage Securities Association) and the CRI (Charter Realty Investor Society) and is the 1999 recipient of the prestigious CMSA’s Founders Award.
