A Day in the Life

Graduates of the Executive MBA program agree the format of the program – meeting every other Friday and Saturday – is ideal for several reasons:

  • With only two days required away from the office each month, disruption in work responsibilities is minimal.
  • Meeting for two consecutive days allows students to truly focus on the material covered in class.
  • Having alternate weekends free helps maintain family and social lives during the two-year program.

A look at a typical day for students enrolled in the Executive MBA program:

8:00 a.m. Networking among students as they meet over coffee.
8:30 90-minute class session with a lecture followed by discussion of a case focused on an organizational best practice or failure.
10:00 30-minute break with snacks. Students discuss course content, work on an upcoming team project, catch up on email or individual course work.
10:30 90-minute class session that is a continuation of the earlier morning topic. Students briefly present issues from their own organizations that relate to the course topic and discuss the situation with other students. The faculty member presents new information and facilitates discussion.
12:00 p.m. Lunch is served in the Executive Dining Room. Enough time is allowed for more networking and additional team work.
1:00 90-minute session in a different subject. If the morning class was a quantitatively oriented class, the afternoon most likely focuses on a qualitative subject. Class includes a combination of lecture, case analysis, simulations and discussion of issues from students’ companies/organizations.
2:30 30-minute break offers more networking time and refreshments.
3:00 Final 90-minute session of the day continues the afternoon topic and includes a team activity.
5:00 Student teams meet in the Fluno Center’s Study Pub.
6:00 Dinner with classmates on State Street.

Amy NigrelliA Dynamic Community
"It's a very collegial environment. We are all here to learn and grow and draw from each other. The individuals on my team come from diverse backgrounds, and everyone brings unique, wonderful contributions to our projects. We support each other. If someone is having a busy week at work, someone else picks up. The best measure is the fact that I really look forward to these weekends!"
