Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) Programs
The CIBER network offers a variety of exciting faculty development opportunities through Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) programs. Examples include workshops that help business faculty incorporate international business concepts into their course syllabi, programs that provide strategies for foreign language educators to include business communications in their courses, and short-term international study tours to countries around the world.
Southeast Asia FDIB
The CIBERs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Hawai’i are pleased to host the 2012 Southeast Asia FDIB: Vietnam.
In 2011 the FDIB took place in Singapore and Malaysia. Please visit the Southeast Asia FDIB: Singapore and Malaysia website for details.
China FDIB and other FDIB Programs
The UW-Madison CIBER regularly co-sponsors the China FDIB, hosted by the University of Colorado-Denver, and offers partial support to UW System faculty or academic staff with teaching responsibilities to participate in the China FDIB or other FDIB programs.
The China FDIB program will take place January 1-11, 2012. The program will focus on the new developments in China’s Five Year Plan (China’s 12th strategic plan). The plan depends on massive infrastructure projects and export driven growth as primary models and calls for GDP annual growth of 7%. But it also turns its attention to “quality growth” and a focus on the individual. Faculty will meet with entrepreneurs, business executives, and government officials who make this growth happen and visit cultural sites, universities, and companies to develop a framework for the past and present. Participants will visit Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Chengdu. Please visit the University of Colorado-Denver CIBER website to learn more about the China FDIB.
For information about other FDIB programs, please visit CIBERWeb.
Note to UW System Faculty: The University of Wisconsin-Madison CIBER will pay the registration cost for one UW-Madison or UW System faculty or academic staff with teaching responsibilities to participate in the China FDIB program. Participants are responsible for their own international airfare, passport and visa fees, and incidentals. CIBER funding is intended to support applicants with limited experience in the region. Applications for UW-Madison CIBER funding to attend this program are due by Friday, September 30, 2011. To apply, please send an abbreviated CV and a cover letter indicating your interest in the program and how its content might benefit your courses and/or research to uwmadisonciber@bus.wisc.edu. Please contact Susan Huber Miller, CIBER Director, at shubermiller@bus.wisc.edu or 608-263-7682 if you have any questions about this opportunity.
